School–Based Project Tips:
* Plan ahead: Senior year gets crazy, so it is important to set priorities and understand your requirements and obligations.
* Don’t reinvent the wheel: By this, we mean that it is important to know what is already going on at your school. If you have something going on at your school or in your community similar to your project idea, build off of those strengths that are evident in your school by taking it to the next level and raising people’s expectations.
* Use your curriculum: It is the guidebook for your school-based project (SBP) from start to finish.
* Be realistic: Be clear about your goals for this project, and do not over extend your goals beyond your resources.
* Catalogue available resources: It is important to know what is readily available to you and your project through your school or fellow B.B.’s.
* Use your appendix: It is full of little “cheat sheets” for your SBP!
* Utilize B.B. Juniors: The BB juniors at your school are a great resource for ideas and help in completion of your project.
Attention Parents:
* Know your student’s plans for attending B.B. meetings and when the meetings are for the School-Based Project planning are to ensure they attend.
* Keep your student engaged throughout their senior year, and it is always a good idea to keep track of their graduation requirements.
* Remind your student of deadlines in B.B.
* We encourage you to look over their senior curriculum with them and have them to explain the B.B. SBP to you. It is especially important to look over the Year of Dates with your students. This is in the back of their curriculum with all the important dates and deadlines for the entire year.
Frequently Asked Questions:
* If I am the only BB at my school, do I still need to do a project?
Yes, you can complete a project being the only student or you can team up with another school, but talk to your BB staff for more information about dual projects.
*
If I attend two SBP meetings and go the day of the presentation or the day of the project, do I get credit for participating? No, it is not fair to the students who put in the extra time and effort to give students who didn’t really participate in the project credit.
* What am I to do if the SBP meetings always fall on other obligations (IE practice, etc)?
Contact your BB staff person and your team captain and together you can make a plan where you will not miss out on the experience and still get credit.
* If I miss a meeting, can I do service to make it up or something I am doing through my school, club, or community to make it up?
No, Bridge Builder senior meetings are geared toward your SBP and skills to prepare you in the future. You need to plan ahead and attend regularly scheduled meetings.
* Can I graduate if I don’t attend any BB meetings?
No, if you do not participate in the program, you will not graduate even if your did you SBP and all other extra graduation requirements.
* If I am not able to attend the senior service day, what do I do?
Well, we have given you two dates: one in the fall and one in the spring, so you need to arrange to be at one of those dates. It is mandatory.
* If I am not able to declare my graduation from BB on the days you have set, what should I do?
You need to contact one of your full-time BB staff members, and we will work out a time that you can come to declare your graduation.
* If I am not able to attend graduation, will I graduate?
Of course. If you do all your requirements, then you will graduate even if you can’t attend the ceremony.
* Will there be make-up credits for seniors in May?
No, after graduation there will be no make-up opportunities for seniors; therefore, you need to plan ahead.
Remember your BB Staff is always there to lend a helping hand!
